How the Chord Analyser Works

Our chord analyser uses music theory algorithms to identify chords from finger positions. Here's how it works:

  1. You enter your finger positions - Place markers on the fretboard diagram showing where your fingers are.
  2. We calculate the notes - Based on standard tuning (or custom tuning), we determine which notes are being played.
  3. We analyze the intervals - The relationship between notes (3rd, 5th, 7th, etc.) tells us the chord quality.
  4. We name the chord - Using music theory rules, we identify the chord name, including the root note and quality (major, minor, 7th, etc.).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the chord analyser work?
Our chord analyser uses music theory algorithms to identify chords. When you place finger markers on the fretboard, we calculate the notes being played and determine the chord name based on the intervals between those notes.
Can it identify complex jazz chords?
Yes! Our analyser recognizes a wide range of chord types including major, minor, diminished, augmented, 7th chords, extended chords (9th, 11th, 13th), suspended chords, and more complex voicings.
Does it work for ukulele chords?
Absolutely. The chord analyser works for both guitar and ukulele. Just select the correct instrument when creating your diagram and the analysis will be accurate for that tuning.
What if my chord has multiple possible names?
Many chord voicings can be named in different ways depending on context. Our analyser shows the most common interpretation, but some chords may have alternate names (like C/E vs Em with added bass note).
